Habitat: Growing gregariously or in clusters and lignicolous.

Description: Fruiting Bodies: At first spherical but soon opening to form a shallow cup and eventually disc like, up to 2 cm broad. Upper surface: Smooth, bright red to scarlet to orange, margin conspicuously fringed with dark brown to blackish hair and the hairs are up to 1mm long. Under surface: Clotted with dark hairs on reddish to brown surface. Flesh: Thin and transparent. Spore Print: Creamy white to yellowish.

Comments: This brightly coloured cup fungus is tiny beauty of the forest which is hardly found.  It is recognized by long, stiff and dark-coloured marginal cup hairs and a red to orange hymenophore. Other Scutelliniaspecies have shorter hairs.
