Habitat: Solitary or caespitose and lignicolous.
Description: Fruiting bodies: 5-12 cm wide and up to 1 cm thick. Upper surface: reddish-orange, fading in age to whitish, wrinkled, with warts or smooth. Hymenophore: Orange-red, fading less than the cap surface, 2-4 pores per mm. Spore Print: White.
Comments: Another species, P. sanguineus, resembles Pycnoporus cinnabarinus but is thinner (up to 0.5 cm thick), has a smaller cap, and is not as common as this one.
