Local name: No local name known Edibility: Inedible Habitat: Terrestrial under hardwoods or conifers and solitary to gregarious. Description: Cap: 2-5 cm in diameter, conical to bell-shaped, surface fibrillose, red mostly on the disc to yellowish-red toward the margin, the colour varying in some cases to orange-yellow. Hymenophore: Free gills, close, yellowish-white to greenish-yellow. Stem: 5-10 cm tall and up to 1 cm wide, sub-clavate, surface fibrillose, yellowish-orange from the mid-section to the tip and greenish-yellow toward the base. Cap surface, stem surface and gills turn black with handling. Flesh: Reddish to orange-yellow. Spore Print: White to cream. Comments: This species is relatively easy to identify by the conical shape of the cap and from bright red to orange-red, yellowish-orange and even greenish-yellow colours. However, the most important characteristic is that all parts of the fruit body bruise and discolour strongly black when bruised and in age. |
